Hero Bio:
HARLES AUGUST DAVISON was born in Arlington, Hancock County, Ohio, on the 31st of March, 1893. The family moved to Versailles in the same State when Charles was five years of age. As he grew up he helped his father on the farm during the summer months, and in the winter gave his time and efforts to obtaining an education. In this way he finished his high school course at the age of seventeen and took a year of college work. Then he went to Chicago where he busied himself with architectural work, and where he made a good record. Four years later he moved to Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada.
On the 14th of June, 1918, Charles and his brother, Earl, entered the service of the Nation from Las Vegas, going first to Reno to the University of Nevada Training Detachment. There they remained until their training time was up, when they both went East, Earl to Indianapolis and, later, overseas, and Charles to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Charles entered Company C, 2d Training Battalion, Signal Corps, on August 13th. On the 24th of September he was transferred to Detachment 620, Field Signal Battalion, and on the 21st of October, to the 15th Service Company, Signal Corps. Just a week later (October 28th, 1918) he fell a victim of ‘influenza and pneumonia. His remains were removed from Fort Leavenworth to the old home at Versailles, Ohio, and buried in the Green Lawn Cemetery there.
His parents, William H . and Amanda Bell Davison, of 306 Washington Street, Versailles, Ohio; his brothers, Earl F., of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Osker L., of Versailles; and his sisters, Mrs. Nellie Preshewn, of Grenville, Ohio, and Miss Pearl Davison, of Piqua, Ohio, survive him. A n uncle, John W . Seiders, resides at Las Vegas.
Las Vegas deeply felt the loss of Charley Davison. Nevada echoes the epitaph written by the soldier’s mother: “My son was a true and faithful boy.” He was true to his mother and to his State and Nation.
